What are the 4 main Blood components?
Blood is a combination of plasma and cells that is circulate throughout the body and it supplies essential substance like sugar, oxygen and hormones to the cells and organs, and also remove waste from the cells.
1) Plasma:
It is a pale yellow sticky liquid. It makes up 55% of the blood volume. The components of plasma are water 92%, dissolved protein 8%, glucose, amino acid, vitamins, minerals, urea, uric acid, co2. Plasma carries dissolved materials, vitamins, mineral, salts, co2, urea and hormones and it also carries heat energy.
2) Red blood cells(RBC ) or Erythrocytes:
These cells are tiny biconcave disc- shaped cells. They don’t have a nucleus or mitochondria and are the most common type of blood cell. It’s the vertebrate organisms mechanism mean of delivering oxygen to the tissues via blood flow through the circulatory system. They take up oxygen in to lungs or gills and release it while squeezing through the body's capillaries. These cells cytoplasm is rich in hemoglobin, an iron containing biomolecule that can bind oxygen and is responsible for blood’s red color.
3) White blood cells (WBC) or Leukocytes:
WBC are colorless cells and possess a nucleus that are part of the immune system involved in defending the body against both infections disease and foreign materials, these WBC is called phagocytes and they are made by the bone marrow and tissue.
4) Platelets or cell fragments or thymocytes:
These are tiny fragments of large bone marrow cells and they carry specialized blood clotting chemicals. The clotting chemicals are released where blood and lymph vessels are injured and noting point here is platelets is not present in the nucleus.
